Ember Swift, singer/songwriter/musician,
owner of Few'll Ignite Sound record label
"Working with Lisa Johnson was a landmark decision in my career path. I am so glad that we met, that our energies connected, and that we formed a working relationship when we did (2000). Her incredible skills (editing, administration, computer knowledge, communication, and people skills) were fantastic assets to Few'll Ignite Sound and enabled the company to move into a realm of professionalism not yet truly known to the label before Lisa came on board. Without Lisa, we would never have been able to embark on a full-time touring career, for example.
She was our administrative manager or "office guru" and she helped keep Few'll Ignite Sound bustling and active even while we could not be there ourselves. Even her computer was called "The Master," which tells you something about who ruled that roost!
Thanks Lisa! Our time together in Toronto will never be forgotten!"
Erin Smith, singer/songwriter/musician,
of Erin Smith Band and The Ladybird Sideshow:
"Lisa Johnson has got to be my favourite smarty pants. I find her to be a top-notch editor and writer with a keen ear for music and a sharp eye for finding gems among up-and-coming bands.
On top of fixing all my atrocious grammatical errors in music-related press releases and biographies, Lisa has always been a staunch supporter of all my musical and artistic endeavours. She's the kind of gal who convinces everyone she knows that they have to come and see such-and-such a band, and consequently helps to build up the fan base and word-of-mouth buzz.
This gal is the real thing — an avid music enthusiast with experience in music journalism, editorial work, publicity, and event co-ordination. She meets deadlines, is well-connected, and infuses her work with her own unique spin and imagination.
Highly recommended!"
Brenley MacEachern, Madviolet:
"Hmmm...what can I say about Lisa Johnson? Well, the only poor Madviolet review that I can find in print or online is by none other than Lisa Johnson, but we hired her anyway. I hired her because I value her integrity and she laughs at everything I say. She's passionate about music, and she tells you exactly what she thinks about it whether you want to hear it or not. As a tour manger she rocks: she's a good driver, does all the thinking for you, and doesn't fart in the van. Above all, Lisa Johnson has a big heart. If she gives me another bad review, though, I might hunt her down and slap her silly. But don't tell her it was me."
Melissa McClelland, solo artist
and part of The Ladybird Sideshow:
"Lisa has been a staple in the Canadian indie music scene for years now. You will see her out at shows cheering on local musicians, but she is also behind the scenes working hard to help these careers move along at a healthy pace.
Lisa has written my bio and those of many of my musician buddies. I have also read interviews by Lisa on IndieVoice.com and witnessed her hard, dedicated work at Few'll Ignite Sound. As a writer, Lisa is a unique and talented artist: She knows how to ask real questions that get people thinking and describes music in a way that shows her true love and appreciation for it. When you read one of her pieces, you will find yourself laughing at moments, stopping to contemplate an idea from time to time, and finishing with a true understanding of her subject.
We love Lisa!! Yay!!!"
Dresden Sky:
"What can we say about Lisa? She's been absolutely great for us! It was really comforting while we were on tour to find out from venue managers and owners that we had a really great person working for us back home. Time and time again we heard that Lisa was very courteous, polite, and great with follow-up something that is very important and appreciated by bookers who have a lot on their plates. Lisa went above and beyond on short notice to book our western Canadian tour and it turned out great. We are very grateful to Lisa and would highly recommend her to any other artist."
Jason Chesworth, The Pocket Co.:
"Lisa's most important quality is her absolute love of music. She is unflinchingly honest and is absolutely filled with integrity. She understands and respects our personalities, and is never afraid to push us into areas we're afraid of precisely because she understands and respects us. She'll tell you when you're great, and she'll let you know when you're not. You can't pay for that kind of loyalty. She makes the DIY enjoyable and, believe it or not, easier!"
Lenni Jabour of the Third Floor:
"Why, Miss Lisa is simply the dearest darling we have ever had the pleasure of meeting on The Third Floor. Anyone who hesitates in employing her considerable services is, in our opinion, absolument fou."
Adam Bowman, Drummer in several bands:
"So I need to write a testimonial for Lisa's site. Hmmm.... Two problems with that last sentence (Lisa, I’m sure, would find five) the words “I” and “write.” At this point I would typically pick up the phone and say something to the effect of, “Hey Lisa, I need to write a testimonial for some web site. Hook me up will ya?” Which now leaves me with an interesting dilemma: Do I write something myself (which would inevitably suck), or do I leave it to someone with only half of Lisa’s linguistic prowess and surely only a pathetic fraction of her dizzying intellect and vocabulary (which would inevitably disappoint).
Besides, how could someone else possibly understand how professional, creative, and (lest we forget) hot Lisa is, without first working with her as I have over many years and projects, and always with the same fantastic results. Surely you can understand how dire my situation is.
So perhaps some day I will find a way to get a testimonial over to her site, but for now I think I’ll just leave it at: I love you Lisa, and thank you.
(Spelling, grammar, and sarcastic humour checked by Lisa Johnson.)"
Graydon James, Drummer for too many bands to mention:
"There are no words to describe how sharzmtastic Lisa Johnson is, has
been, and will continue to be into the bright, bright future. Except
for the following words: lithe, epic, well-insured, luscious, fiscally
responsible, independent, madly passionate, swan-like, orchestral, magnetic,
diatonic, immeasurable, felonious, famously irascible, squooshable,
and kooky.
On every level that you can imagine, and in every sense possible, and
from the fibre of her toes to the outer limits of her well-trimmed mop-
top of hyphen-inducing hair: Lisa Johnson is better than you. Adore
her. Worship her. Hire her."
Jay Moonah, Uncle Seth:
The following is as written (funny, funny Jay)....
"So, like, we hired Lisa to do a new bio for Uncle Seth, which is, like, our band. And Lisa came over, and she had, like, a tape recorder, y'know? And, so, like, we babbled. ENDLESSLY. In fact I think her tape recorder overheated. So I'm thinking, like, 'Gawd, this poor chick is never gonna be able to make heads nor tails of our idiotic babbling, let alone turn it into, like, a usable bio.' I thought perhaps she'd even, like, go mad and flee into the forest, never to be heard from again, y'know?
So, like, I was a little surprised when a few days later, Lisa calls me up and she's all like, 'Hey, I've got something.' We met at a coffee shop and she hands me, like, this wad of paper. And I read it, and it's, like, freakin' brilliant! I laughed. I cried. I spilled a little herbal lemon tea (hey, I had a cold, okay?!?).
A few tweaks later and we had, like, a brand new bio! It was cool enough for your really cool friends, and at the same time nice enough to, y'know, take home to your mom and junk like that. Thanks Lisa!"
More to come....
